Best Google Fonts

Best Google Fonts

I recently wrote about how to add Google Fonts to your WordPress site and that led me to share this post on the best Google Fonts. Of course, this list is just based on my opinion, however the popularity of these fonts and their consistent use across the web implies the list has some worthy selections. So here goes my top 10 Google Fonts:

1) Open Sans

Open Sans was designed with an upright stress, open forms and a neutral, yet friendly appearance. It was optimized for print, web, and mobile interfaces, and has excellent legibility characteristics in its letterforms.

10) Roboto

Roboto has a dual nature. It has a mechanical skeleton and the forms are largely geometric. At the same time, the font features friendly and open curves. While some grotesks distort their letterforms to force a rigid rhythm, Roboto doesn’t compromise, allowing letters to be settle in to their natural width. This makes for a more natural reading rhythm more commonly found in humanist and serif types.

12) Lobster

Based on ligatures (different letter-pairs), Lobster uses the best possible variation of each letter depending on the context of the letter inside each word. It’s perfect for interesting headings, but shouldn’t be over-used.

  1. [...] Now that you have integrated Google Fonts into your WordPress theme, style away but don’t go overboard. Using 1 (maybe 2) fonts should be sufficient for most sites. I do not recommend more than that on a site. If you do decide to use Google Fonts, let me know what fonts you are using in the comments below?
