200 Ranking Factors Used by Google ( infographic )

Google has never publicly announced their ranking signals, but they have mentioned that there at about 200 of them. Thanks to Single Grain and Backlinko for listing what they think could be the 200 ranking factors used by Google, based on the information they have about Google.

This infographic is a great way to learn and integrate some of the concepts into your own game plan to hopefully see results.

You can check out the massive infographic below. It’s full of ranking properties, from domain factors to backlink factors and many more. You may want to take notes!

The key to building backlinks is to take the time to do them properly. The Google Panda update began the process of putting emphasis on the quality of the backlink and not just the amount. As Google has continued to advance their backlink analysis it now includes contextual measurement – which means that the type of site the link originates from needs to have a logical relation with the site that the link points at.

In other words if you have a niche site that sells chainsaws, having a backlink on it from a women’s cosmetic site will provide no value regardless of page or domain rank – and in most cases, get your site penalized. The most important think you can do when building backlinks is to create genuine content on the page the backlink is residing on. If you simply put your link on the page – even if you are using anchor text, if the page contains little else but your link – then it has a greatly diminished value.

Google’s 200 Ranking Factors, the complete list an infographic

6 Random Tips for the Most Popular Social Media Platforms Right Now

How many social networks have you signed-up for?

Chances are if you are marketer you have an account on Twitter, Facebook and hopefully also Google Plus and Pinterest. Right now those are the four “hot” networks and the best places to promote your brand and your content.

But of course saying that is easier than actually doing it.

The fact is not everyone succeeds with those networks and not everyone makes the most out of the time they spend there.

Sometimes you might get the big picture and understand how it all functions, but you might be missing the smaller details. The latter can more often than not be the missing piece to the whole puzzle. A piece without which nothing happens.

And with today’s post I will try to show you some of those elusive pieces that will help you complete this social media puzzle. In the below paragraphs I have covered six social media tips that cover namely the four social platforms I mentioned above.

Let’s get going, shall we!

6 Random Tips for the Most Popular

Social Media Platforms Right Now

1. Enable the Follow Feature on Facebook

Previously I suggested that promoting via a Facebook page rather than a personal profile is the way to go. But then again it seems like Facebook is constantly trying to limit the reach of posts, shared from a Facebook page.

And because I have been noticing a decline in the performance of my Facebook page, I decided to put some effort towards my personal account (which I’ve been neglecting quite a lot actually).

The best thing I could think of was the follow feature that enables others to get your notifications without you having to be friends.

I activated the follow feature by clicking the gear-like button, selecting Account Settings, going to the Followers tab and ticking Turn on Follow.

Once you’ve done that, the next step is to copy the code (found on the same page) and paste it where you find appropriate on your blog. Or if you’d like to customize the Follow button, you can use the code from THAT page.

NOTE: I’d advise you to place the button in the About Me widget (which is a must by the way), right below the short bio. Just see how I did it.

2. Follow the Ones Who Retweet the Influencers on Twitter

An interesting strategy I’ve been testing recently involves adding bookmarks to the Twitter accounts of some of the influencers in my niche.

By influencers I am referring to people with not only a lot of followers, but also with a high authority. In other words individuals and companies who tend to receive a lot of mentions, retweets and favorites.

The idea is simple. Every now and then I will go through the accounts I have bookmarked in my browser and follow some of the tweeps, who have retweeted or favorited some of the influencer’s recent tweets.

I currently have bookmarked around twenty accounts, so I only go through the latest 2-3 tweets per Twitter user. Doing so ensures that the tweeps I will follow are actually active, which makes for a better chance of them following me back.

There are three factors when choosing who to follow:

The first one is the username they use – is it a real name?

Second is the profile photo – does it look genuine?

And third comes the number of followers – is it between 200 and 3,000?

The key here is NOT to overdo. I am currently utilizing the strategy just twice a week and follow between a 100 and 200 Twitter users per session. In the end of the week I do get at least 70-80 new ACTIVE followers. All of this has recently resulted in my tweets getting retweeted and favourited more often than normally.

3. Pin Your Google Plus Posts for Additional Exposure

It turns out that Google Plus and Pinterest work pretty good together. Recently whenever I publish a new post and share it on Google Plus, I also pin it to a special Pinterest board that I have set up.

Why not directly pin from my blog you’d ask…

Well because when I cross-share from Google Plus, when my Pinterest followers see the post and hopefully click on the image I’ve pinned, they will first be redirected to the Google Plus story for the post. That way they will also be given the chance to plus one or reshare the post after they read it, thus giving me additional exposure.

Okay, now how do you go about it?

The first step is to add the Pinterest Pin It button to your browser. Here’s a download link for Chrome and one for Firefox. The extension will allow you to pin images from any page that you are currently browsing.

Second step is to click on the timestamp of the Google Plus story for your latest post. That way you will open up only that specific story in a new URL.

Thirdly once on that page you need to click the Pinterest button that you just added to your browser, select the image from the post (yes, don’t forget to add an image to your post!), add a short description and pin it to your Pinterest board.

4. Retweet New Content from Your Facebook Page

Here’s another way to cross-promote your content and get more social shares along the way…

This time we are talking about combining Twitter and Facebook. The process is quite similar to the one I explained in the above paragraph. When you publish a new post on your Facebook page, you can share the Facebook story for the post on Twitter again by clicking on the timestamp of the post.

The first benefit is that you can get more people liking the story on Facebook, which will mean more visibility for the story in other people’s streams. The second benefit is that you can actually get a lot of new fans that way. With the help of this approach I got my first 300 or so fans some months ago.

NOTE: With the Buffer plugin (only Chrome version as of now), you can easily schedule the Facebook stories of your choice for sharing on Twitter at a later time.

5. Don’t Forget to Use Formatting and Hashtags on Google Plus

As of now Google Plus is the only social platform that allows you to add formatting to your posts. And that feature is there for a reason. I’d strongly advise you to always format the descriptions you write if you want more people to pay attention and as a result comment, plus one or reshare your posts.

Here’s a really cool guide (created by Simon Heyes) on how to format your Google Plus posts:

Aside from formatting, another thing you should consider is hashtags. While on Facebook hashtags not only don’t work, but they actually shrink the exposure of published stories, on Google Plus it’s exactly the opposite.

What I would advise you is to always include 2-3 hashtags right at the end of the descriptions for your Google Plus posts. Of course in order to make the most out of them make sure they are actually relevant. While writing the hashtags you will be given suggestions, based on what is popular. Best would be to use some of the suggested hashtags.

6. Use the Sticky Post Feature on Triberr

Triberr is currently one of the best ways to multiply your social media shares and the sooner you sign-up, the sooner you will start bringing more social traffic to your posts.

So what is Triberr?

Triberr is a place where you can join and create the so-called tribes – communities with members that share similar interests. Whenever a member of the tribe has a new post, that post gets imported to Triberr for all other members to share it on Twitter and other networks.

But anyway, even if you are active on Triberr, have you made a post of yours sticky?

What this feature does is it allows you to sticky your latest post at the top of your tribal stream. That way your post will stay right at the top of the stream in all your tribemates for the five days it is active.

What this means for you?

Almost double the shares and a lot more traffic. With more people noticing and reading the post, you will also get new invites to other tribes, expanding your reach even further.

A sticky post costs five bucks so it’s quite a bargain right now.

So how do you create a sticky post?

Final Words

That’s pretty much it. I really hope you found the tips I shared in the above paragraphs useful!

Now I would really love to hear your two cents!

Have you enabled the follow feature on Facebook? Do you cross-promote your content? What other tips can you add up to the list?

Please take a minute to share!

6 NEW Google Analytics Features for Marketers

Do you use Google Analytics to help you make marketing decisions? Are you familiar with the latest changes in Google Analytics?

Google recently made the switch to secure search, which has resulted in a larger return of “not provided” keyword data in Analytics reports.

For marketers who used the information to guide their marketing and content, the loss of keyword data has been quite a blow.

Fortunately, Google also updated Analytics with more than 14 new features that are incredibly useful to business owners who make decisions based on how their audience interacts with their website and social profiles.

In this article, I’ll share what’s new in Google Analytics and how you can make the most of these changes to benefit your business.

6 NEW Google Analytics Features for Marketers

#1: New Google Analytics Reports

When you log into your updated Google Analytics account, you’ll notice that Traffic Sources and Content have been replaced by Acquisition and Behavior.

The new Acquisition section offers you two new views: Overview and Channels.

The Overview report displays Analytics ABC data for your top channels (e.g., Social, Organic, Direct), sources (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) or media (e.g., Organic, Referral, Email).

Essentially, the Overview report helps you see which channels bring in the most visitors, which channels bring in engaged visitors and which channels bring in visitors who convert into email subscribers or customers.

See information about visitor acquisition, behavior and conversions at a glance.

While the Overview report displays a summary of data, the Channels report displays a more detailed view of your visitor acquisition on a per-channel basis.

The most interesting part of this new Acquisition report is that you can define the channel groupings, which allows you to track different sources or media in a customized, consolidated group.

If you’re not happy with the default channel groupings, you can change them and add your main media or sources of traffic in different groups.

Edit the default channel groupings and create your own groups.

For example, you can group different traffic sources such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+ under the same group and call it “Social.”

Additionally, the Social section has a new Trackbacks report that displays all the back links with the landing pages they link to on your website.

#2: New Analytics ABC Reporting

A significant change in Google Analytics is the introduction of Analytics ABC, which is a new format for some of the Google Analytics reports that group data based on acquisition, user behavior and conversions.

This new report helps you see information about the acquisition of new visitors, how they behave on your website and how they convert into loyal readers, engaged visitors, email subscribers or customers.

You’ll be able to see Analytics ABC in action primarily in the Overview report under Acquisition (more on this new section below), but also in other reports such as Location, Demographics, New vs. Returning and Landing Pages.

The biggest outcome of this change is that now you see a variety of conversion data in the summary view of the report.
Make informed decisions based on the conversion data available in the majority of new Google Analytics reports.

And if you track conversions for multiple goals, you can change the conversion goal in the Conversion group. Now you can see the same report conversion data for different goals without a lot of effort. How cool is that?

#3: Better, Faster and Smarter Segmentation

The segments in Google Analytics are now easier for new users to navigate, and at the same time are more powerful for advanced marketers and analysis experts.

Along with a new user interface, you can segment your visitors, do cohort analysis and create segment templates.

Once you click the Segments arrow, you will see the built-in segments, your custom segments and the ones you have starred.

You can create your own new segment or import a predefined segment from the Google Analytics Gallery, where you can find popular segments created by the Google Analytics team.

#4: New Demographic Data

Until recently, a demographic dataset was missing from Google Analytics.

Now, data collected from DoubleClick third-party cookies is available in the new Demographic report. You’ll see valuable information about your audience’s gender, age and interests with just a couple of clicks.

Check your audience demographics from the Audience reports > Demographics.

No more guessing about who your ideal customer is. You can do things like:

  • Figure out the demographics of your top 15% customers.

  • Improve your remarketing campaigns in Google AdWords by targeting specific segments of your audience with different ads.

  • Use Demographics and Interests to analyze A/B tests.

  • Use Content Experiments from within Google Analytics to conduct A/B tests and then use Age segments to interpret the results and see which version of your test works for different segments.

To start seeing these reports, you’ll need to activate Demographics data by following these steps:

demographics setupIt takes about 2 minutes to complete the steps above and start seeing demographics data in Google Analytics.

And don’t make this mistake when you change the Google Analytics tracking code.

Once you’ve finished the setup, you should see demographics data in your account in about 24-48 hours.
Once you complete the demographics activation, you should start seeing data in the Google Analytics reports.

#5: New Tag Manager Auto-Event Tracking

The Google Tag Manager update makes measuring things like calls to action or clicks on ads with event tracking easier by introducing Auto-Event Tracking. Now there’s no HTML or JavaScript code to worry about during your setup.

Use tags to integrate auto-event tracking on your website.

Google Tag Manager is essentially a free tool that allows you to easily manage the tracking codes you install on your websites, such as the Google Analytics tracking code, remarketing tracking pixels, AdWords Conversion Tracking or even Facebook Conversion Tracking.

You can manage all of the tracking codes from one place and edit them without having to manually edit the HTML of your site every time you do it.

To learn more about Auto-Event Tracking in the Google Tag Manager and how to integrate it, watch this video created by Justin Cutroni.

Learn more about how you can set up Auto-Event Tracking in Google Tag Manager.

#6: Improved User Education

Along with the interface changes, Google Analytics has introduced new and improved educational resources.

They’ve added walkthrough videos within the tools and introduced the Analytics Academy and the Digital Analytics Fundamentals course, which provides a foundation for marketers and business owners who want to better understand the principles of analytics and improve their business outcomes.

Conclusion

Now that you’ve read about the latest Google Analytics changes, log in! Use this article to explore and help you learn more about your online audience, easily track conversion data and make better marketing decisions for your business.

10 Ways to Increase Traffic to Your Blog

When it comes to blogging, everything is measured in visits or traffic. The more visits your blog gets, the better it is considered. Blogging is all about increasing visitors count, because this eventually leads to an increase in earnings. There are people with blogs with really poor quality content, but contrary to this they are getting a lot of traffic, perhaps because they are good at SEO. Everyone one who is doing blogging wants to increase his/her blog’s traffic but increasing traffic is not a piece of cake that anyone can eat; so what to do? Well, better don’t worry because here we have compiled the list of Top 10 Tips to Increase Traffic to Your Blog. The list of tips goes like this –

10 Ways to Increase Traffic to Your Blog

#1. Posting Frequency Matters

The posting frequency matters a lot but I am sure you didn’t consider an important factor, did you? I suggest you to post content on your blog at least 5 times in one week or even more because the more content your blog will have the more chances of getting good traffic from Google.

#2. Google PageRank and increased traffic

Some bloggers don’t even know what Google PageRank is and for those let me wind it up quickly. Google PageRank is a count from N/A-10 that is assigned to every blog based upon the backlinks. The more the PR, the better your blog is considered. Increasing PR is simple, increase backlinks count.

How to check your backlinks

#3. Increase Subscribers and high traffic

I strongly suggest you to increase the subscribers’ count of your blog because subscribers are the most loyal readers of your blog that will constantly visit your blog even when it gets affected by Panda or Penguin. Sign up for Aweber so you can create high qualify subscription forms to build an e-mail marketing list.

#4. Content and hot topics are the King

Make sure your blog’s content quality is high because poor content quality will eventually lead to a nose-diving readers count and it becomes quite difficult to get that trust of the readers back. Make sure your blog doesn’t have any inappropriate kind of content. Hot news attract more visitors to your blog. So write about some current events or news going on in your industry or niche.

#5. Stick to a Niche

Sticking to a niche is the most important thing. Sticking to a niche means keep posting only about what your blog deals with. For example, if you have a blog about Dancing then you should not suddenly start posting about the Mobiles.

#6. Stay Trendy

This is a tricky thing that almost all the bloggers forget. It’s good to stay trendy in virtual as well as physical world. I suggest you to write about the trending articles on your blog. For example, if you have an SEO blog then you can write posts on Google Penguin Update etc.

#7. Respond to Comments

Many bloggers don’t respond to their readers and that’s not so good because this leaves an “arrogant” sort of impression on the reader’s mind. So respond to your readers’ comments. I am not asking you to respond to every comment but you can at least respond to the readers who are asking questions.

#8. Guest Blogging brings more traffic

It’s the time that you should stop snubbing Guest Blogging because it’s an important factor in increasing the readers’ count because guest blogging not only increases your Backlinks count but also increases a direct traffic to your blog.

You can contact me if you want to Guest Blog on this site

#9. SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the best thing you can do to increase your blog’s traffic. SEO is basically all about how to make your blog’s content search engine friendly so that it gets indexed on Google or any other search engine on top. If it gets indexed on the top then you will surely get a lot of traffic and that too for no cost. Check out the best plugins to use if you are using Wordpress.

#10. Use Social Media

Social Media sites were originally created to connect people but today they have emerged as the promotion space on the web. Everyone is promoting something, for example – bloggers are promoting their own blogs etc and that’s what I suggest you. Make sure you make use of social media sites to promote your blog’s content, but don’t even dare to spam because it makes a bad impression on the readers’ mindset. It is important to have a great insight on digital influence and brand for being a perfect person in social media.

These are few common methods of making traffic to a blog/website. Anyway it takes time to develop traffic to a blog. So keep doing the above mentioned points will be an added advantage to develop more traffic to your blog.

Fishing on Facebook - How To Reel in Customers ( Infographic )

Fishing seems simple. Throw a line in the water, wait for a bite, reel in a fish. But real fishing, just like fishing for customers on Facebook, is actually deceptively difficult. It requires finesse, strategy and skill. Facebook is a busy pond -- chock full of anglers, all fighting to hook fans and land them as customers. With millions of lines in the water, the angler who knows best what the fish want will walk away with biggest catch. And the fishermen clumsily slinging bait into the pond with no strategy will walk away empty-handed. Here, courtesy of Facebook app Post Planner, is an infographic that explains the art of angling for customers on Facebook. It will have you reeling in the big ones in no time.

There’s a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.
