IOS 7 Jailbreak Tool is Here !

Evasi0n Jailbreak out but a little buggy

After only a few months of waiting, the Evasion team has released an IOS 7 jailbreak tool for devices running iOS 7. The tool runs on Windows, OS X, and Linux. Download it out here, or check out our step-by-step guide to jailbreaking your device below.

Christmas has come a bit early for ardent iOS device jailbreakers. In a rather surprising move, the popular evad3rs hacker team has just released their long-awaited untethered evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak. Just a week ago, my colleague Joe noted:
Back in September, we heard from one member of the elite iOS hacker-team evad3rs that an iOS 7-compatible jailbreak solution was so far looking good, and soon after, it was claimed that the team may have found the final piece in the iOS 7 jailbreak puzzle. This prompted a number of reports to note that a final release could occur in the immediate future; meanwhile, members of evad3rs told the public that Apple's minor point updates for iOS 7 were safe to download and install.

But then, seemingly out of the blue, the evad3rs team has announced today via Twitter that the evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak is now available:

Merry Christmas! The iOS 7 jailbreak has been released at http://t.co/wblOSKyLah! All donations will go to @publicknowledge@eff and @ffii — evad3rs (@evad3rs) December 22, 2013

Here are the requirements for the so-called evasi0n7 jailbreak, which is said to be compatible with all iOS devices running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4:

  • 5 minutes of your time!

  • A computer, running Windows (XP minimum), Mac OS X (10.6 minimum) or Linux (x86 / x86_64)

  • iTunes installed if you're running Windows

  • An iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4 (you may check in Settings/General/About => Version)

  • A USB cable to connect the device to the computer

Of course, should you decide to install evasi0n7, it’s recommended that you back up your device first using iTunes or iCloud so you can recover your data in the event that something goes kaput in the process. Good luck! And happy holidays!

Update: As the day has gone on, there's been a lot of talk about some fishy behavior on the part of the Evasion team and their software. At best, it's just very buggy, and at worst, it may be sending private user data to another site. At the moment, we recommend holding off on the jailbreak until we learn more. A lot of the information currently circulating is speculation, so keep an eye on this post and this Reddit thread for more information as it develops.

Update 2: It looks like the claims of malware were false, but the jailbreak is indeed buggy (and has a lot of compatibility issues). Check out this post for the full story.
